Community engagement plan: research interest

1. Provide a community engagement plan with a clear statement of research interest and research questions.

The context of our community engagement focuses primarily on the Wesley Intermediate School community and thus specific references will be made in relationship to the research context. The focus of the research is heavily dependent on the implementation of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) within our school and provides us with high levels of relevance to the needs of the school.

Within the scope of the research yet to be conducted, the PB4L app team (Gerhard V and Lou R) have been working towards the ongoing development of  a PB4L app. During the literature review it was quickly discovered that the concept of PB4L and digital learning. Further more we found that our research if answered would heavily influence the development of the PB4L app LEAN canvas developed in the DCL assignments. In the most recent PB4L SET survey at Wesley Intermediate School, the overall implementation as compared to the last three years was very high. However as the expectations taught area wasn't at 100 percent, we are encouraged to continue towards finding unique ways of teaching our students pro-social behaviours at school.

Research Interest

Whilst making connections to the previously stated rationale of the literature review, the next phase of research will justify how the application team will use the social media, digital apps and PB4L models of best practice into one platform. We would like to provide justification through community engagement and capture future adaptations and pivots to the PB4L LEAN canvas. Ultimately we would make an app that is gamified and easily accessible which will increase Pro-social Behavioral outcomes for students at Wesley Intermediate School in the third assignment.

Our focus questions from the recent literature review guided the next phase of the questions for community engagement.

1.    How do educators teach pro-social behaviour through digital and collaborative practices like gamification and  social media and what is the impact of this on learning?

2. What behavioural education pedagogies are effective practices that can be used within a PB4L app?

Engagement plan

The engagement plan is a follow on to the initial action plan implemented in Assignment 3 of our Leadership paper. The extra components as listed below have links into the specific sub questions developed in Assignment two of the Research and Community paper. The aim of the engagement plan is to gather feedback on ways of implementing the PB4L application at its design phase as it intrinsic to customer validation(AGILE and LEAN model).

The initial engagement of the application will be presented via the blog, social media and email and requires a google form survey to be completed on the following research questions. The two drivers of the research will be driven by design and social science research methodology. A rationale to be acknowledged, is simply that the outcomes of this research will inform the product development of the PB4L app. In order to gain customer validation, the research context will be focused on feedback from a range of target profiles (LEAN) that includes students, teachers, parents and also other professionals working within Wesley Intermediate School like the school SWIS, Nurse, and the PB4L team from the MoE with cluster 7.
