This afternoon, we held a focus group with some of our Student Leaders. We discussed the mock ups for the app, and discussed the functionality of the app. They shared their ideas and thoughts, around online and physical rewards. They felt that the online badges, and levelling up is a great idea, and would be a big motivation for encouraging pro-social behaviour. They also raised the importance of these online rewards being somehow linked to real-life awards as well. They did not want to see rewards such as the good day trip, or gold cards to disappear.
They also said that they prefer having a profile photo instead of an avatar (They felt that an avatar could be to childish and not cool enough.)
Some additional ideas that they would like to see incorporated are:
Top ranking classes of the week
An advice section where student leaders could respond to anonymous user submitted questions
functionality where students would be able to track their incident reports.
Over all it was a great session, and awesome to see the students get excited and involved in a project that we have spent so long on.
The next step is to share the survey out to a wider group of students, as well as have a teacher focus group and survey.
